MET Short Courses

The Department of Meteorology is a recognized Meteorological training center by WMO and GCC Countries. The Department has designed training courses that are based on WMO syllabi leading to a Higher National Diploma in Meteorology. The Department equips students with the required knowledge and skills to perform various functions at Meteorological stations including weather observations and Forecasting and is now the Regional Training Centre of WMO for the RA-II region. The new state of the art forecasting simulator provides a dedicated environment for learning and practicing weather forecasting. An operational forecasting system works on real-time data with satellite imagery and archived data in different configurations (general, aeronautical, marine). The Department also has an automatic weather station, laboratories and instruments which support the training.

To become Forecasters, Met. Technicians in National Weather Services or Meteorology personnel in oil and petroleum industry. .

How Will I be taught

The course covers in depth subjects such as: General Meteorology, Physical Meteorology, Meteorological instruments, Plotting and analysis of weather maps, Met Data Processing, Flight Briefing, Numerical Weather Prediction, Aviation Meteorology, Dynamic Meteorology, Tropical Meteorology, Satellite Meteorology, Marine Meteorology, Synoptic Meteorology, Oceanography and Weather Analysis and Forecasting.  

1. The BIP-M Course is for one year duration which is divided into two semesters.
2. The BIP-MT Course is for two and half year’s duration and is divided into 5 semesters.

How will I be assessed

Periodical examinations are conducted for each module including practical for which 40% weightage for internal assessment and 60% for the final examination. An aggregate of 70 % is a must for pass.

What are the opportunities for experience & study abroad

Once qualified, the Meteorology graduate can expect to be able to work as Meteorologyst / Forecasters /Senior MET Technician(depends on the level of study) in the National weather servise of any country. Opportunities are also available in Oil and Petroleum companies, Agricultural and Hydrologycal Sectors.

   The successful candidates can continue their education in the field of Atmospheric Science for Bachelors and Masters Degree in any reputed university around the world.

After graduation,what job I will obtain

1. The successful candidates can choose their career as Meteorologists, Forecasters and Met. Technicians depend on the level of study.

    They can also work as senior staff in the field of Meteorology in varios companies.
